Jewellery Valuer

Full time, Monday to Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced, knowledgeable and enthusiastic person to join our busy Silver, Jewellery & Watches Department as a cataloguer and valuer.

The main focus of the role is meeting our clients when they bring items to the auction gallery, appraising and valuing appropriately and cataloguing for general, specialist and Fine auction sales.

From single items to large collections of costume and modern jewellery, diamond and other gem set, as well as pearls, gold and silver, designer, Georgian, Victorian and other period pieces, plus Gentleman's jewellery. From modernist designs, including Scandinavian, Art Nouveau and Art deco, etc. Our fortnightly auctions also include QVC, TJC, TGGC, Butler & Wilson, Pandora, Swarovski, etc.

The department also deals with silver, silver plate and watches.

The role involves careful, secure handling and storing of items consigned for auction, cataloguing, photographing and lotting for auction, pre and post-sale admin and correspondence, answering enquiries prior to sale and from clients by telephone and email. Using MS word and Outlook together with our bespoke in-house system (training provided).

The ideal applicant will have previous experience within the jewellery sector; be it retail or a second-hand environment and be able to confidently identify items. (Many examples of our catalogues can be found on our website showing the types of lots and values withing the auctions.)

Comfortable with working both alone and closely with colleagues within our team, meeting fortnightly deadlines within a fast-paced environment. Integrity, with good references, with a positive outlook and 'can do' attitude are a must.

MODEL RAILWAY VALUER / CATALOGUER

 

We urgently need part-time enthusiasts who can help with sorting and describing large volumes of model railway product for auction. Working alongside our existing valuers, we require enthusiastic, knowledgable people to help our Model Railway department (operating within our existing, established Toy Department), holding monthly auctions.

The main focus of this role is to sort and catalogue our model railway (all gauges) product for monthly auctions, working closely with existing Valuers and Consultants, unpacking and sorting goods consigned for auction, comfortable working within a team. Honesty and integrity, with a positive outlook and “can do” attitude are a must.

Flexible days and hours available. £12.21 per hour.

SALEROOM / VALUING ASSISTANT

(Rate: 21 and over £12.21ph / 18 to 20 £10.00ph)

Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm

(plus monthly Saturday auction days when scheduled)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic person to join our existing team, to develop a career within a modern Auction Saleroom.

The main focus of this role is to support the Auction Saleroom in the cataloguing and administration of regular auctions.

Main duties and responsibilities will include;

  • General Saleroom Administration working closely with valuers, porters and auctioneers, unpacking and sorting goods consigned for auction, valuing and cataloguing items.
  • Auction Viewing and Saleday duties including assistance setting up auctions.
  • Live Internet Bidding online operator
  • Photography; taking catalogue images for auctions

This is not an exhaustive list of what the role may entail, and flexibility to the changing needs of the business is required.

Previous experience within an Auction Saleroom would be ideal, to continue to develop your career. 

The successful applicant will be comfortable working within a team and able to follow tasks required within specified timescales, interacting with customers and team members at all levels of the business. Honesty and integrity, with a positive outlook and “can do” attitude, are a must.
