WWII RNVR Fleet Air Arm Log Book, Medal Group, comprising 1939 - 1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal and War Medal 1939 - 1945 with matching miniatures, cloth wings and cap badge, scarf, photographs, books including 'The Fleet Air Arm Songbook', Fleet Air Arm Officers Association Newsheets, magazines and other items.

The above relates to the service of James Kenneth Moorhouse (1924 - 2007). Moorhouse was from Mirfield, West Yorkshire and came from a working class background. At an early age he showed an aptitude for engineering and attended technical college, in July 1942 he graduated with a qualification in mechanical engineering, he was then commissioned as Sub Lieutenant in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, and was selected for pilot training with the Fleet Air Arm. His pilot's log book details his training and missions from the first entry on 19 April 1943 HMS Daedalus to the last entry 17 June 1946 RNAS Rattray, at the end of his service he had flown a total of 531 hours. Notable episodes in his log book reveal flight training in Ontario, Canada from September 1943 to March 1944 and operational sorties in Fairey Barracudas over the English Channel and North Sea. Entries reveal relentless anti-ship and anti u-boat patrols. These were not without risk and on 31 March 1945 he crashed on take off but fortunately he was uninjured. After leaving the Senior Service he got married and had a child, he continued employment in engineering and in May 1951 emigrated with his family to Australia under the Australian Government Initative known as the 'Ten Pound Poms'. Unable to settle the family returned to the UK and throughout the majority of his further career he worked in mechanical engineering, whilst pursuing a part time interest in photography. After retirement he remained active and was involved in the running of 868 Squadron Air Cadets.
